Why would anyone willingly take cold showers?
This is the response I get when telling people about my abstract hygiene practice that has now been part of my life for the last 3 years. Everyone I tell about cold showers is always intrigued, flabbergasted, dumbfounded, and curious as to why I would put myself through something like this….
Back track 3 years ago:
The 30-Day Cold Water Challenge was introduced from the blog the FeelGoodLifestyle. After reading how good cold showers are for you and having a love for trying new things, I knew I had it give it a shot. The idea to take a cold shower for the next 30 days sounded enticing and challenging. After completing the 30-Day Cold Water Challenge I felt empowered – the art of taking cold showers is now a part of my life.
The first day is the hardest – there is just so much resistance inside and your keep hearing a voice in your head saying “NO WAY”
Once your in there: your body begins to shiver – you find yourself almost dancing – you feel like you just jumped into a frozen lake – the water droplets fell like tiny BB pellets – you notice your self almost gasping for air – a scream/shriek is more than likely to arise.
*Side note* take a hot shower and then finish with cold water can help in the building of the habit. Slowly build up to going full cold(this is where the magic unfolds)
After you get your initial Cold Shower under your belt it gets easier each time, and once you get the notion that this is going to be painful out of your head is when you can enjoy the process. Use the power of you mind to think of the positives rather than the negatives.
TAKING COLD SHOWERS CAN LITERALLY CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!!!
The truth is that there are so many benefits to taking cold showers that many people do not realize.
- Improved blood circulation
- Increased will power
- Strengthened immune system
- Faster healing from workouts
- Increased energy and alertness
- Increase lung capacity
- Healthier hair and skin
- Combats depression
- Burns more fat
- Speeds metabolism
- Reduced inflammation
The main reasons I take cold showers is to keep my mind in a disciplined state. By keeping this practice a part of my daily routine I am more likely to make better and healthier decisions that I know will benefit my overall well-being and life. Jumping into the cold water day in and day out strengthens my will power which then has a ripple effect throughout my day
The overall good feeling you get when you dry yourself off with a towel is amazing especially the first time. You can feel this glow of excitement pulsing through your veins.
Trying this will get you out of your comfort zone. And when we go outside of our comfort zones is when you witness growth.
I have found that when taking cold showers I spend less time in the bathroom day-dreaming. I wash up and get out and start my day.
Once this becomes a daily practice you notice you have the power to influence the way your body reacts to different stimuli. By focusing you attention on your breath you can shift the freezing feeling to one that is bearable and begin to think:”this is not that bad”
Cold showers have helped jump start my day on many occasions whether it be I was hungover and had work that day or was just feeling tired and groggy.
Regardless the only way you can receive these benefits is to: take ACTION
*WHY WOULD YOU NOT WANT MORE DAILY ENERGY, FOCUS, MOTIVATION, and WILL POWER*
I’m calling “you” out, yes you the reader! TAKE a cold shower for the next 30 days and watch the magic unfold in your life 🙂
30-day challenges are an excellent way to acquire a new habit or way of thinking. It is only through consistency that we begin to see change happen in real life results.
Cold shower tips:
*Notice the resistance that is bubbling up inside you before you step in
(hesiataion will occur just know that delaying the process in not going to help – go in full force)
*Submerge your whole body right away, this is the easiest way to get in swing of jumping in
*Once you are inside the frozen tundra FOCUS ON YOUR BREATHING
(this will allow you to get out of the state of shivering and shock and it allows you to focus on something other than the freezing water)
*Notice how you feel after the first time and how you would want to replicate this feeling
*Drink tea after to warm your body up
